Privacy Policy

From patients and visitors: name, email address, search queries, and general location data (city or region) when you search for a dentist or submit a contact form. We do not collect health or medical information.

From dentist practitioners: practice name, professional credentials, contact information, office address, insurance plans accepted, specialties, and profile photos when you claim or create a listing.

Payment information: when you subscribe to a paid listing tier, payment is processed entirely by Stripe, Inc. We do not store credit card numbers. We receive a transaction confirmation, the last four digits of your card, and your billing postal code from Stripe. Stripe's privacy practices are governed by the Stripe Privacy Policy.

Automatically collected data: IP address, browser type, referring URL, pages visited, and time spent on pages — collected via server logs and analytics tools (e.g. Vercel Analytics). We use cookies and similar technologies as described in our Cookie Policy.

We use collected information to:

• Operate and improve the Site, including search relevance and listing accuracy.
• Process and manage dentist listing subscriptions via Stripe.
• Send transactional emails (account confirmations, invoice receipts, listing status updates).
• Respond to contact form submissions and support requests.
• Detect and prevent fraudulent or abusive activity.
• Comply with legal obligations under Canadian and US law.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use personal data for unsolicited marketing without your express consent.

Under PIPEDA, we collect and process personal information only with your knowledge and consent, or where permitted by law (e.g. to fulfill a contract, comply with a legal obligation, or for a legitimate business purpose proportionate to the individual's reasonable privacy expectations).

We may share personal information with:

• Stripe — to process payments for premium listings.
• Hosting and infrastructure providers (Vercel, Neon) — to operate the Site. Data may be processed in the United States.
• Analytics providers — in anonymized or aggregated form only.
• Law enforcement or regulatory bodies — when required by law or to protect the rights and safety of users.

We require all third-party processors to maintain appropriate security standards consistent with applicable privacy law.

Our services are hosted on infrastructure located in the United States and Canada. If you are located in Canada, your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States. We ensure such transfers are subject to appropriate contractual protections.

We retain personal data only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, or as required by applicable law. Dentist profile data is retained for the duration of an active listing and for up to 24 months after termination. Contact form data is retained for up to 12 months.

Canadian residents have the right under PIPEDA to access, correct, or request deletion of personal information we hold about them, and to withdraw consent at any time (subject to legal or contractual restrictions).

US residents may have additional rights under applicable state law (e.g. CCPA for California residents), including the right to know what data we collect, the right to delete, and the right to opt out of sale. We do not sell personal information.

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@yourlocaldental.com. We will respond within 30 days.

We implement industry-standard technical and organizational safeguards, including HTTPS encryption, access controls, and regular security reviews. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

The Site is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 where applicable under local law). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us immediately.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via a notice on the Site or by email. Continued use of the Site after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
